Catherine Foster, Ph.D.
Catherine Foster, Ph.D., associate professor of Communication Studies at Canisius College adopted My News Wizard into her 300-level class on Media Relations. Students selected a faculty or staff member who was a subject matter expert on any issue currently in the news, met with that person to discuss the news issue, developed a message map, then determined the likelihood of success using My News Wizard and communicated their findings in a paper.
Ginni Jurkowski, professor at the State University of New York - Geneseo, uses My News Wizard in a 200-level Public Relations Writing class. Students develop a news release for a nonprofit client to increase public awareness of an event. They critique their own work based on My News Wizard and develop a plan to enhance the news release. In the future, teams of students will critique each other’s work using this tool.
Robert M. Kucharavy
Robert M. Kucharavy, professor emeritus - public relations at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University adopted My News Wizard into his 200-level course, Writing for News and Public Relations in a Digital Age. The in-class assignment required students to think of a good story idea having to do with their mock client, then use the My News Wizard website to see if their idea was really newsworthy.
